In all 40 children were great sports people and positive ambassadors for our school.  Huge congratulations to both athletics team being crowned County Champions (for the 3rd year running). Ethan in Year 4 was the fastest speed stacker at the tournament (the team came 8th in the competition) and our cricket team came 4th in their group. Uniform Clarification

As it starts to get colder children like to wear trousers and we see Jeggings and leggings. These are fine worn underneath skirts or trousers but they are not part of our school uniform. Grey trousers (light or dark charcoal grey) are part of the uniform. Please also ensure that all uniform is named. We will retrieve, and return to the child, any named uniform; un-named uniform is more difficult!!

Healthy Snacks

Please can I remind all families that children should only bring in a healthy snack of fruit (fresh or dried) or a plain sandwich for a snack at break time. Snacks that contain nuts, spices, chocolate or sweets are not permitted and will be confiscated by staff and returned to the adult collecting the child or the child themselves at the end of the school day. We have a number of children with severe nut allergies who can have some very severe reactions so please abide by this request. Children are able to have milk (at morning playtime) which needs to be paid for in advance please speak to the school office (if your child has free school meals, the milk is free to your child but still needs to be ordered in advance each term) and access to water during the school day.

Please be aware that school starts promptly at 8.55am and registration closes at 9.00am. We are seeing a number of children arriving late this doesn’t help the children settle into school and even being 5 minutes late regularly adds up quickly. Please be punctual to school it is important for routine and attitudes to learning. School finishes at 3.15pm. We realise that many parents collect and drop off at Hillshott School. To assist this our classroom doors should be open at 8.40am which will allow time for younger siblings to be dropped off afterwards and we will keep children safe in school until they are collected by a parent if that is the arrangement with us. Also remember that Morning Club is available from 8am at £2 a day to assist working parents.

Whilst it is lovely to bask in this lovely sunshine this is also an opportunity to remind parents of our Sun Safe policy and procedures. At school, we reduce the lunch time so the last 15 minutes are ‘Cool Down time’. All children are required to sit in the shaded areas of the field and use this time to go to the toilet, fill up water bottles and ‘cool down’ before the afternoon sessions. Children have access to water fountains outside. Many of our PE lessons are in the afternoon, so in the heat teacher’s will plan to have frequent ‘cool down’ breaks, all children can access water and shade or in some instances alternative activities (but this is left to the teacher’s discretion, once the outside temperature and UV levels are determined). It would help your child in school if could ensure you have applied sunscreen (at least SPF30+) before...
